2024 Kingaroy Show

The first day of the two-day 2024 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 8:00am until late tonight. In addition to the usual big range of horse, cattle and equestrian events, this year's Show will also feature Tractor Pulls; Woodchops; a Dog Show; the Eljay Freestyle Motocross Show; vintage machinery; a big display of caged birds; specialty food vans; and a lot more besides. There'll also be a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley that's always the biggest in the region. The Show's official opening will occur in the main ring at 1:30pm and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:00pm. There'll also be a Mister Minit Giant Fireworks Show around 7:30pm that will light up the night sky, and the return of Kingaroy Speedway to the show on Sunday night. Single day tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for age or disability pensioners and high school students (under-12s can get in for free if accompanied by a paying adult). Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? SES Open Day - Kingaroy
Queensland State Emergency Services will be holding an Open Day at the Kingaroy SES Group headquarters at 5 Glendon Street in Kingaroy from 11:00am to 2:00pm today. SES equipment will be on show and SES volunteers will be available to chat about what it's like to be in the SES and the training options available. A free sausage sizzle will also fire up around 12:30pm and everyone is welcome.
Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions 20th Anniversary Dinner
The Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions Club will be celebrating two decades of outstanding service to the Timbertowns with an after-five dress code dinner at the Blackbutt Golf Club at 51 Langton Road in Blackbutt from 6:30pm until late tonight. This $35-per-head get together is open to current members, past members, their families and supporters and to help plan the catering an RSVP would be appreciated by April 29. Mr Q Band - Kingaroy

Greg Griffith & The Lonesome Crows - Linville
Entertainer Greg Griffith will be performing at the Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville from 12:00 noon until 4:00pm today, followed by The Lonesome Crows who'll play until 8:00pm. The hotel's kitchen will also be open for lunch, dinner and snacks from 11:00am and there's free camping across the road or paid accommodation at the pub if you want to stay overnight. More details? The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around 12:30pm today for its regular Saturday get-together. Pig On A Spit Night - Wooroolin
The Grand Hotel on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin will be holding their final monthly Pig On A Spit Night for 2023 from 5:30pm until late this evening. Apart from a great roast pork meal there'll also be a Lucky Door prize, raffles and live karaoke entertainment. Tickets are $32.50 for adults, $21 for pensioners, $16 for high school students and $10 for primary school children (U5s are free). Wooroolin Line Dancers
The Wooroolin Line Dancers will be holding a line dancing class for beginners and intermediate line dancers at Wooroolin Hall on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 9:00am to 10:00am this morning (for beginners) and 10:00am to 12:30pm (for intermediates). Course fees are $5 each for the beginners and intermediate classes, or you can do both for $10. Everyone is welcome.
Kaimkillenbun Trail Ride
Kaimkillenbun P&C will be holding the first day of their two-day 26th annual Kaimkillenbun Trail Ride through farm paddocks and the foothills of the Bunya Mountains at Rangemore Road, Moola (near Kaimkillenbun) from 9:00am to 2:00pm today. The ride will offer an Open Track, an U16s Track and a Pee Wee Track, and ride fees range from $20 for Pee Wees through to $90 for adults - but it's a strictly cash-only event. The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Kingaroy Eisteddfod
The eighth day of the 2024 Kingaroy Eisteddfod will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 10:45am onwards today, with competitors in the Dance Solo/Duo/Trio section battling it out for line honours. Spectators are very welcome and a nominal entry fee applies.
Saturday Morning Tennis - Blackbutt

Fundraising Show - Nanango
The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be running the first day of a two-day Fundraising Show (to raise funds for South Burnett CTC) at their equestrian grounds in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 8:30am onwards this morning through until early evening. Judge Tamsyn Rigato will be putting entrants through their paces and there'll be free unpowered campsites in the grounds if you want to stay overnight, along with a canteen that will run all day. Big Rosella Field Days - Woolooga
Petersens Farm at 2 Reilly Road in Woolooga will be hosting their annual Field Days between 9:00am and 3:00pm today and tomorrow. This event - formerly known as the Big Rosella Festival - is now in its 9th year and it features local foods, farm tours, artisan and boutique markets, live music, art, cooking and cocktail demos from chefs and much more. Petersens Farm are Australia's biggest producers of the quirky, hot-pink fruit (also known as wild hibiscus) and there’s something for everyone at this event from those who fondly remember their grandmother’s rosella jam from long ago to avid foodies keen on paddock-to-plate dining and the resurgence of rosellas as a gourmet superfood. Dead Cow Gully Ultramarathon - Nanango
The annual Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultramarathon will be taking place on the Walsh family's cattle property at 675 Walsh Rd, Runnymede (11km north of Nanango) from 7:00am onwards today. Runners taking part in the event need to complete a 6.7km lap of the course every hour, and the winner will be the last person left standing. Sunflower "You Pick" Weekend - Wheatlands
Many people travel to the Darling Downs each autumn to see (and pick) sunflowers, and this weekend The Blooming Farmhouse at 724 Byee Road in Wheatlands will be opening their own sunflower crop to the public from 8:30am to 5:00pm to allow guests to pose for photos and pick their own sunflowers (BYO secateurs and closed-in shoes). Saturday Rugby League - Nanango
South Burnett Rugby League fans should head to Fred Kassulke Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD today for a full-on day of league action. The gates will open at 7:30am for junior matches, with U6s playing rounds between 8:0amm and 8:40am; U8s matches between 9:20am and 12:40pm; U10s matches 8:00am and 11:20pm; and U12s matches running between 11:20am and 2:30pm. After these, though, the A-grades will hit the field for the day's two key matches, with Murgon playing Wondai at 2:45pm, followed by a clash between Nanango's Stags and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 4:30pm. A canteen and - in the afternoon - a bar will be running at the grounds and admission is $2 for adults if you get in before 2:30pm, or $5 if you get in later. Everyone is welcome!
