South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
102nd Burrandowan Picnic Races
The Burrandowan Picnic Races will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track 66km southwest of Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning until very late tonight. The first race in this year's five-race program will leave the barriers at 1:32pm and there'll also be a Fashions on the Field competition with prizes; a licensed bar operating from 11:00am to 10:30pm; country food available all day from the race club's cafe; other food stalls in the grounds; and the traditional pit-fired barbecues at night (BYO plate, cutlery and side dishes) followed by entertainment from the Mr Q Band. There'll also be picnic hampers available for pick-up, but you'll need to book these in advance. Pursers Coaches will be running buses from Kingaroy at 11:00am (returning from the track at 5:30pm) for $20 one way or $40 return - phone (07) 4168-5133 for details and bookings. Entry to this year's meeting is $25 per head and tickets can be booked online. NB. Free overnight camping is available on Saturday night only (small tents and swags only, no caravans or camper trailers). There's also no ATMs or mobile phone reception on site, so bring cash.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Nanango Men's Shed
The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around 12:30pm today for its regular Saturday get-together. Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints U14s, Women's and Men's teams will be playing home games at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (just next to Beangrowers) today. The action will kick off at 11:00am with a Round 4 U14s game between the Saints and Cougars. This will be followed at 12:45pm with a women's clash between the Saints and Cougars, and then a men's match between Saints and Cougars at 2:30pm. A bar and canteen will be running on site, admission is free and spectators are very welcome.
Wooroolin Line Dancers
The Wooroolin Line Dancers will be holding a line dancing class for beginners and intermediate line dancers at Wooroolin Hall on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 9:00am to 10:00am this morning (for beginners) and 10:00am to 12:30pm (for intermediates). Course fees are $5 each for the beginners and intermediate classes, or you can do both for $10. Everyone is welcome.
Saturday Morning Tennis - Blackbutt

Never 2 Old 2 Rock & Roll - Kilkivan
The Kilkivan Bush Camping and Caravan Park at 577 Rossmore Road in Kilkivan will be hosting the second (and final) day of their 2-day Never 2 Old 2 Rock & Roll weekend today. The event will kick off with Rock & Roll dance classes where experienced instructors teach guests of all abilities the proper moves and grooves, followed by live rock and roll music until late. The park's catering team will also be serving up foods all day and night, and campsites are available if you want to make a full weekend of it. Graham House Community Day - Murgon
Graham House at 20 Taylor Street East in Murgon will be holding a Community Day from 8:00am to 11:00am this morning in the block between Graham House and their Family 2 Family Thrift Shop. Today's get-together will feature markets, food stalls, lots of activities for children, the grand re-opening of Family 2 Family, tours of Graham House's extensive facilities and a volunteer appreciation ceremony and expo. This event is completely free and everyone is welcome!
Wondai Garden Club Bus Trip

In Exile Band - Linville
The In Exile Band will be performing at the Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville from 4:00pm until late tonight. The hotel's kitchen will also be operating from 11:00am for lunch, dinner and snacks and there's free camping across the road or paid accommodation at the pub if you want to stay overnight. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. Junior Rugby League - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt Yarraman Timbertowners will be playing their first home game of the new rugby league season at their oval in Railway Street, Blackbutt from 8:00am to around 3:00pm today. U6s, U8s, U10s and U12s teams from the Timbertowns will battle it out with juniors from Nanango, Kingaroy, Cherbourg, Wondai and Murgon between in fun, fr8iendly competitions. The Blackbutt State School P&C will be running a cash-only Bake Sale at the grounds as well, and there'll also be a coffee van on site if you get thirsty. Everyone is welcome!

Dance - Inverlaw Hall
CANCELLED: A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Shades Of Country and there'll be the usual supper and novelty dances, along with a Lucky Door draw and a raffle. Harrington Circus Show
The Harrington Circus Show will be running at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon from today until Sunday, offering an all-new 50-minute performance under a heated Big Top. Today there'll be an afternoon show at 4:00pm and an evening show at 7:00pm, followed by a final performance at noon on Sunday. Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat teams will be inviting people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 8:30am (for a 9:00am paddle-off) this morning. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome!
Pumpkin Soup Making - Goomeri
Volunteers will be making pumpkin soup for the up-coming Goomeri Pumpkin Festival at the Hall Of Memory's kitchen in Boonara Street, Goomeri from 8:00am today. Anyone who'd like to learn the secrets of preparing this exotic food are very welcome to come along and lend a hand.
Saturday Soccer - Nanango
Nanango Men White will play Barambah at the Alan Downie Sports Fields in Burnett Street, Nanango at 1:00pm this afternoon. Spectators and supporters are very welcome and there's no admission fee.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets are held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturday each month and they feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Junior Rugby League - Kingaroy
There are no senior A-grade league games being played today but T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy will be hosting three intermediate matches to balance the junior games being held in Blackbutt today (see entry further above) - an U15s match between the South Burnett Eagles and Hervey Bay Seagulls at 1:00pm, followed by an U16s match between the Eagles and Seagulls at 2:15pm before concluding with an U17s match between the Eagles and Gatton Hawks at 3:30pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome and a canteen will be operating in the grounds.
Mothers Day Cent Auction - Moore
A Cent Auction will be held at the Soldiers Memorial Hall on the D'Aguilar Highway at Moore this morning. Doors will open at 9:00am for a 10:00am start, and the $10 entry fee includes a free sheet of tickets and a light morning tea. Extra tickets will be available for $1 per sheet.
Kilkivan Campdraft
The Kilkivan Show and Campdraft Association will be running the annual Kilkivan Campdraft this weekend at Kilkivan Showgrounds in Mudlo Road. Today's action will kick off at 6:30am with a maiden draft, followed by a futurity, then junior, juvenile and novice drafts that will run into sundown. This will be followed by a Restricted Open under lights tonight. There'll also be a bar in operation and hot meals available on site, as well as camp sites if you want to stay over. Admission is free for spectators and everyone is welcome.
Karaoke Night - Yarraman
