Burrandowan Picnic Races
The Burrandowan Picnic Races will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track, 66km south-west of Kingaroy, from 9:00am this morning until late tonight. Burrandowan's Fashions on the Field competition is famous, a licensed bar will be operating all day and food stalls will be open (there's also picnic hampers - but these must be pre-ordered by May 5). The traditional pit-fired barbecues will be running at night after the races (BYO plate, cutlery and side dishes) followed by live music. Pursers Coaches will be running shuttle buses from Kingaroy at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm (returning from the track at 6:30pm, 8:30pm and 11:30pm). Phone (07) 4168-5133 for details and bookings. Entry to this year's meeting is $27.53 per head and tickets can be booked online. Camping is also available on-site for $15 per person per night. NB. There's no ATMs or mobile phone reception on site, so bring cash.
Nanango Handmade Markets
- Nanango craftspeople will be holding a boutique handmade market from 9:00am to 2:00pm today in the grounds of historic Ringsfield House, 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango. This is an opportunity to buy a special present for Mother's Day and also support local small businesses. The markets are organised by the Nanango Homemade group and supported by NaTDA. Yarraman Country Markets
The Yarraman Country Markets will be running from 8:00am to noon this morning at Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman. The markets - which include a popular fruit and vege stall - are held on the second Saturday of every month. Phone Joe 0459-638-282 to book a stall.
Biggest Morning Tea - Proston
- Proston Lions Club is hosting a Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser for Cancer Council Queensland from 9:30am today at the South Burnett Ministries Church in Rodney Street, Proston. Tickets are $15 which includes a generous morning tea and a lucky door prize. There'll also be a multi-draw raffle. Cent Auction - Moore
- The Soldiers Memorial Hall Association will be holding a cent auction from 10:00am this morning in the hall, on the corner of Lennox & Main Streets, Moore. Mother's Day Bingo - Linville
- Linville State School P&C is hosting a special Mother's Day bingo fundraiser from 5:30pm this evening at the Linville Hall, at 40 George Street, Linville. Cost is $25 per person, which includes a buffet-style dinner and dessert. There will be a prize for Best Dressed. Bookings can be made online NB. This is an 18 event.

Rugby League - Wondai
Nanango Stags will be hosting Round 3 of the South Burnett Rugby League's senior competition today at Wondai Sportsground on the Bunya Highway just north of the Wondai CBD. At 2:00pm, Murgon Mustangs v Nanango Stags; at 3:30pm, Wondai-Proston Wolves v Kingaroy Red Ants; and at 5:00pm, Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners v Cherbourg Hornets. Earlier in the day, two junior girls league games will be played: at noon, South Burnett Eagles U15s v Waves; at 1:00pm, South Burnett Eagles Under 13s v Waves.
Movie Fundraiser - Kingaroy
- The Australian Breastfeeding Association Kingaroy is hosting a movie fundraiser this evening at the Kingaroy Cinema in Short Street. The movie is "The Devil Wears Prada 2" (rated M). Tickets are $50 which includes the movie, pizza and dessert. All money raised will go towards supporting local mothers. Tickets can be booked online

Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat club invites people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 9:00am (for a 9:30am paddle-off) on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! NB. Check the club's Facebook page as times could change due to the weather.
SB Western Performance Club Shows - Nanango
- The South Burnett Western Performance Club is hosting two separate competitions this weekend at their grounds on racecourse Road at Nanango. The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding Club Days 3 & 4, today on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (but use the Avoca Street entrance) with racing from around 10:00am through until this afternoon.
