May 1, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council advises that the existing 80km/h section of Maguire Road and Brocklehurst Road, Wattle Camp, has been reduced to 60km/h.

After a technical review, a decision was made at the January 2026 Traffic Advisory Committee meeting to provide consistent speed signage throughout the local area.

Cr Jane Erkens said that as the divisional Councillor she supported this change as it responded to local residents' concerns and helped ensure speed limits reflected the road conditions and the safety of all users.

April 30, 2026 - Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is coming up from May 4-10 and this year’s theme is "Smart Tech, Smarter Choices: Protecting Your Privacy In The Age Of AI".

Queenslanders expect public sector agencies to protect their personal information, including when we use AI.

April 20, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council is conducting a co-ordinated Wild Dog & Feral Pig Coordinated Baiting Program.

Feral pigs cause environmental and agricultural damage, spread invasive plants and can transmit and potentially spread exotic diseases such as leptospirosis and foot-and-mouth disease.

The Biosecurity Act 2014 requires everyone to take all reasonable and practical measures to minimise the biosecurity risks associated with invasive animals under their control.

To encourage greater participation, South Burnett Regional Council, in partnership with Sunpork, will be providing meat free of charge for landholders that register to participate in the co-ordinated program.

Baiting stations will be held throughout the South Burnett from Monday, May 11 to Friday, May 15, 2026.

All participants must register their intention to conduct baiting no later than Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Protection Of Domestic & Working Dogs

Owners of domestic and working dogs are advised to restrain and or muzzle their dogs during the baiting program to minimise the risk of dogs wandering and coming into contact with poison baits.

April 20, 2026 - In accordance with Section 114 of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 (the Act), notice is hereby given that the South Burnett Regional Council intends to conduct an Approved Systematic Inspection Program to ensure that all dogs are registered in accordance with the Act.

The program will commence on Monday, May 4, 2026 and conclude on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The properties to be included in the Systematic Inspection Program are potentially all properties within the South Burnett area where current records indicate that dog registration fees have not been paid.

Inspections will be conducted between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, during this period.

All dogs over the age of three (3) months are obliged to be registered with the local authority in which the animal resides, as required by the State’s animal management legislation.

This systematic inspection program seeks to proactively check to see if animal owners are complying with their obligations.

Council is permitted to undertake these house inspections in order to ascertain compliance with the legislation.

The Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 provides the necessary head of power to carry out the registration checking activities.

April 13, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council advises residents that Council and/or its appointed water meter reading officer will soon commence reading water meters throughout the region for the half-year period.

This program applies to all premises connected to the water supply schemes in Blackbutt, Boondooma, Kingaroy, Kumbia, Murgon, Nanango, Proston, Proston Rural, Tingoora, Wondai and Wooroolin, for the purpose of recording water consumption.

The water meter reading program will commence from Monday, April 20, 2026 and is expected to continue until Friday, July 31, 2026, with readings conducted between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm daily.

Information collected during this period will be used for the billing of water consumption and will be included on the six-monthly rate notices issued in August 2026.

Meter reading personnel may be required to enter properties to gain access to water meters.

Property owners are responsible for ensuring Council personnel have clear and safe access to meters for maintenance and reading purposes.

Garden beds and tree planting near water meters should be avoided, and a minimum one metre clearance must be maintained around the meter.

For the safety of meter reading personnel, please ensure animals are securely enclosed within your property and that vegetation does not obstruct access to the water meter.

April 13, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council reminds residents of the importance of maintaining clear access to their water meters as part of the regular meter reading program.

Water meter readings are essential for accurately billing water consumption and supporting the efficient management of our water infrastructure.

Council will be conducting water meter readings across more than 10,000 properties throughout the region. These readings are carried out twice a year — between April and July, and October and December — to ensure accurate billing and water usage tracking.

To ensure the process runs smoothly, Council personnel may need to enter properties to access and read water meters. It is the responsibility of property owners to ensure that meters are easily accessible and unobstructed.

Why It Matters

Clear access to water meters helps Council staff perform accurate readings and maintenance safely and efficiently. If access is obstructed, Council may be unable to take a reading and will instead rely on an estimated usage, which could result in inaccurate billing.

Do The Right Thing: Here’s How You Can Help

Do:

• Check that the meter is visible and readable.
• Ensure the meter can be accessed easily.
• Make sure the lid can be removed without difficulty.
• Trim grass, shrubs, and trees around the meter.
• Maintain a one metre clearance around your water meter and avoid planting garden beds or trees nearby.
• Ensure pets are securely enclosed during meter reading periods for the safety of Council staff.

• Allow grass, shrubs, or trees to cover the meter.
• Let sand, dirt, debris, or ant nests build up around the meter or meter box.

April 9, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council advises the community that the Nanango Lions Park Playground area under the shade sail will be fenced off and closed to the public indefinitely, commencing Friday, April 10, 2026.

Council’s Parks team carried out an audit on the play equipment and it was determined that some items are no longer useable.

The swing set will remain open.

A new playground will be installed when funding becomes available.

April 8, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council advises that the Animal Management Centre will be opening to the public from 10:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday starting from April 11, 2026.

The services available on Saturdays will include:

• Adoptions

• Animal surrenders

• Intake of stray or wandering animals

Unfortunately, the team will be unable to process any reclaiming of pets on a Saturday at this time, however Council is endeavouring to have this service available on Saturdays by the end of the financial year.

April 7, 2026 - As a part of Council’s routine maintenance programs and commitment to ensure the long-term sustainability and efficiency of our water infrastructure, Council will be conducting an air scouring program across the entire Nanango Drinking Water Supply Scheme commencing Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Air scouring is a mixture of potable water and compressed air which is injected into the water mains to remove biofilm and unwanted sediments settled on the inside of the pipes.

The air and water increase the velocity in the main causing an abrasive action to scour the pipework clean.

Water is flushed by a number of downstream hydrants to ensure there is no increase in pressure and ensure water quality is maintained.

Benefits of air scouring include:

• Improves the efficiency and reliability of our water network

• Removes iron and manganese sediments

• Increases the efficiency of disinfection residuals

Affected residents will be advised by letter box drop of the programmed works, and a fact sheet will be supplied with additional information.

April 1, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council advises that Webbers Bridge over Barambah Creek on Webbers Bridge Road, Stonelands, is closed to all users, effective immediately.

Council has identified a defect with the timber bridge decking following an inspection and is progressing further structural analysis.

Repair options for the bridge are being developed.

Alternative routes are available via Stonelands Road on the western side of the bridge and Bradleys Road on the eastern side of the bridge.

March 25, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council would like to remind residents that when it comes to disposing of large quantities or bulky waste it is important to use the designated landfill facilities instead of the smaller transfer stations.

Transfer Stations are designed to handle domestic everyday waste, but they have limited capacity and are not equipped to take all waste streams.

By disposing of larger waste at supervised facilities - including Kingaroy, Murgon, Nanango, and Wondai - we can ensure that all waste is managed efficiently, and the transfer stations remain a clean and safe environment for all residents.

February 27, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council has commenced the water main replacement along Kingaroy Street, between River Road and Knight Street, Kingaroy.

The installation is planned to be carried out for approximately six weeks and is expected to be completed by Friday, April 10, 2026, weather and resources permitting.

To provide a safe work environment for Council staff, contractors and users, traffic signage will be in place during the time of works to control flow of traffic and ensure pedestrian safety.

Throughout the duration of works, it is expected that there will be several road closures affecting both lanes of traffic whilst crews install the water mains under the road.

Motorists and pedestrians are requested to travel with extra care, to drive to the prevailing road conditions and to adhere to signage.

It is anticipated the works will be carried out in a staged program and further communication will be provided with times of closures to affected businesses and residents.

February 20, 2026 - With immediate effect, Council advises that Olsens Road, Cushnie, is closed at a drainage structure approximately 1km from the Tingoora-Chelmsford Road end, at chainage 1250, due to damage to an under-road drainage structure.

This section is between Tingoora-Chelmsford Road and Pedersons Road, and the closure does not affect access to properties either end of the closure.

Council has identified a damage to the structure following an inspection. Council will commence further structural analysis of the structure to develop repair options.

Through access is available via Chinchilla-Wondai Road.

January 14, 2026 - South Burnett Regional Council advises the Kingaroy Skate Park car park will be temporarily closed to the public until further notice due to the expansion and building works of South Burnett CTC.

There is limited parking on Pound Street near the ramp entry for South Burnett CTC clients and staff, and the general public may utilise this on weekends.

The reopening of the carpark is expected to be in July when the expansion and building works are due to be completed.

Residents are advised that sprinklers are not to be used, and hosing of paved or concreted areas is not permitted.

Hand held watering is permitted from 7:00am to 8:00am, and 5:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for odd numbered houses and Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for even numbered houses. No residential watering is permitted on Mondays.
