• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering buildings

• Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns

• Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage

• Remove washing from clothes lines

• Ensure pets have a protected area

• Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up and turn highlights on

• Sightseers must keep away from the burn zone for their own safety

Campers and guests of the tourist park will be advised by the dam managers prior to lighting.

If you have asthma or other breathing difficulties, reduce outdoor activities. If shortness of breath or coughing develops, take advised medical precautions or seek medical advice.

Blackbutt Swimming Pool Update
September 19, 2025 - South Burnett Regional Council regrets to advise that due to an equipment failure of the solar pool heating system, the Blackbutt Swimming Pool currently has no operational heating, including pool pumps and heat blankets.

As a result, the water temperature has dropped below the comfortable level required for safe swimming activities.

The owners of the pool and pool manager have determined that the pool will remain closed until the water temperature reaches a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius.

This decision ensures the safety and comfort of all users.

There is uncertainty about whether the heating system will be replaced or a timeline for repairs. Further updates will be issued as they become available.

In light of these circumstances, the local school has advised that they have tentatively scheduled swimming activities to resume at the end of October, contingent upon the water temperature reaching a safe and comfortable level.

The pool's temperature will be closely monitored on a weekly basis to determine when it will be feasible to reopen.

Given the current conditions and to ensure the safety and comfort of all potential pool users, it is recommended that the pool remains closed for an additional three weeks, with a tentative reopening date of Monday, October 13. This timeline allows for sufficient monitoring and evaluation of the water temperature to ensure a safe environment for swimming activities.

Any changes to this tentative timeline will be communicated as soon as they become available.

For further information please contact Council’s Facilities, Parks and NRM Team (07) 4189-9100 or by email

Water Meter Reading Program
August 26, 2025 - South Burnett Regional Council advises residents that Council and/or its appointed water meter reading officer will soon begin reading water meters throughout the region for the half year period ending December 31, 2025.

The water meter reading program will apply to all premises connected to the water supply schemes in Blackbutt, Boondooma, Kingaroy, Kumbia, Murgon, Nanango, Proston, Proston Rural, Tingoora, Wondai and Wooroolin for the purpose of recording water meter readings.

The water meter reading program will commence during September 2025 and is expected to continue until Friday, December 19, 2025 and will be conducted between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm daily.

The water meter reading program collects information for the billing of water consumption that will be included on the six-monthly rate notices to be issued in February 2026.

Meter reading personnel may be required to enter properties to gain access to and read the water meters.

It is a requirement of the property owner to ensure that Council personnel have clear access to the water meter for meter maintenance and reading purposes.

Garden beds and tree planting near the water meter are to be avoided and you must keep a one (1) metre clearance around the water meter.

For the safety of meter reading personnel, please ensure that your animals are enclosed within your property and check that garden vegetation does not obstruct access to your
water meter.

More details about the billing of water consumption and other useful information can be found on Council’s website

For further information, please contact Council's Rates Team on (07) 4189-9100 or by email
Feedback From Recent Water Meter Readings
August 14, 2025 - South Burnett Regional Council is reminding residents of the importance of maintaining clear access to their water meters as part of the regular meter reading program.

Water meter readings are essential for accurately billing of water consumption and supporting the efficient management of our water infrastructure.

In the last round of water meter reads, there were several difficult to reach water meters identified. Council conducts approximately 10,000 water meter reads at properties throughout the region. These readings are carried out twice a year — between April to July and September to December — to ensure accurate billing and water usage tracking.

To ensure the process runs smoothly, Council personnel may need to enter properties to access and read water meters. Council would like to remind the community that it is the responsibility of property owners to ensure that meters are easily accessible and unobstructed.

Why It Matters

Clear access to water meters helps Council staff perform accurate readings and maintenance safely and efficiently. If access is obstructed, the property owner may be asked to read the meter themselves, or Council may estimate usage, which could result in inaccurate billing.

Do The Right Thing – Here’s How You Can Help:

DO:

• Check that the meter is visible and readable.

• Ensure the meter can be accessed easily.

• Make sure the lid can be removed without difficulty.

• Trim grass, shrubs, and trees around the meter.

• Maintain a one (1) metre clearance around your water meter and avoid planting garden beds or trees nearby.

• Ensure pets are securely enclosed during meter reading periods for the safety of Council staff.

DON'T

• Allow grass, shrubs, or trees to cover the meter.

• Let sand, dirt, debris, or ant nests build up around the meter or meter box.

• Damage the meter or meter box with tools or equipment such as lawnmowers or shovels.

• Failure to maintain clear access may result in your meter not being read.

More details about the billing of water consumption and other useful information can be found on Council’s website

Temporary Road Closure:
Morris Street, Blackbutt

August 5, 2025 - South Burnett Regional Council advises that a temporary road closure of the unsealed section of Morris Street, Blackbutt, is planned to commence the week of Monday, August 11, 2025, weather and machinery permitting.

Access for residents will be managed through the work zone.

There will be some closure to vehicle access to properties for a few days for construction of new kerb and channel and associated earthworks. Site staff will liaise with individual residents on the timing of vehicle access closures.

The anticipated duration of construction is six (6) weeks, weather and machinery permitting.

This closure is to facilitate road construction work. This project will replace the existing unsealed pavement in Morris Street, including the connection to Miller Street, with a sealed pavement and kerb and channel.

To assist with safety, temporary signage and traffic control staff will be in place to assist traffic around the work area.

Construction activity will create noise from machinery and equipment and there may be some restrictions to vehicle parking and pedestrian access for public safety, however these impacts will be limited.

Site works and construction activity will take place Monday to Friday 6:30am-5:00pm.

This project is proudly funded under the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.

The Morris Street works are a component of the Parking and Roads Construction and Upgrades project, which received $2 million in funding through the 2024-27 Works for Queensland Program.

For further information regarding the project works, please contact Council’s Infrastructure team on (07) 4189-9100 or by email
