Change Of Venue For Nanango's Australia Day
25-Jan-12: Nanango's Australia Day celebrations will be relocated from Ringsfield House to the Nanango Showgrounds tomorrow due to recent wet weather. The change was decided by the town's Australia Day committee this morning. However all planned activities will be held as normal. State Election To Be Held March 24th
25-Jan-12: Premier Anna Bligh announced this morning that the Queensland State Election will be held on March 24th. However the choice of poll date will push back the Local Government elections which had been originally scheduled for March 31st to April or May this year. Read more on SouthBurnett.Biz
Labour Struggles To Find Nanango Candidate
24-Jan-12: The ALP is struggling to find a candidate to stand in the seat of Nanango but said today they hope to have one by the weekend. Nanango is one of eight seats the party has yet to fill. At the last State election the ALP fielded an "invisible" candidate in the seat that none of the media could talk to and still secured more than 4,000 votes. Read more on the Brisbane Times
Mayor Says He'll Try To Win Second Term
24-Jan-12: SBRC Mayor David Carter announced today that he'll try to win a second term at the March 31st Local Government elections. Mayor Carter narrowly won the job by less than 700 votes at the 2008 elections against opponent Wayne Kratzmann, who announced last week that he'll also be standing again. Bikie Charged Over Nanango Assault
23-Jan-12: A member of the Rebels motorcycle club has been charged over an incident at Nanango on Jan 12. Police were called to a Tarong address after a man and six-year-old girl were allegedly assaulted by two men. The 41-year-old Lawnton man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with assault, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and wilful damage. An Aldershot man has already been charged over the same incident.
$166K Upgrade For Chahpingah Exchange
23-Jan-12: The troubled Chahpingah phone exchange will be getting a $166,000 upgrade within the next few weeks which should put an end to frequent phone outages in the area. The upgrade came about after an approach to Telstra on the matter from Cr Cheryl Dalton. Read more on SouthBurnett.Biz
Man Denied Bail On Assault Charges
13-Jan-12: Adrian Hapaera Namana, 34, of Aldershot, was denied bail when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates' Court today charged with wilful damage, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two counts of assault. Police allege Namana and another man assaulted a man and six-year-old girl at a Tarong address about 10:30pm yesterday. The girl was allegedly knocked unconscious. Namana will reappear on Feb 9. Investigations are continuing.
$50,000 Grant To Buy Flood Signs
30-Dec-11: South Burnett Regional Council has been given $50,000 by the State Government to purchase 44 flood warning signs to help the region be better prepared for future flooding. This is part of $3.2m in grants announced today which will be split between 12 local councils.
Fire Damages Nanango Unit
27-Dec-11: Police are investigating a suspicious fire which severely damaged a Nanango unit in the early of this morning. The fire, which began about 3:00am, appears to have started in the garage area of the Fitzroy Street unit. No one was home at the time.
Two Wondai Men Killed in Crash
24-Dec-11: Two Wondai men, aged 81 and 37, were killed in a two-vehicle smash near Wondai this evening. The crash, about 2km north of Wondai on the Bunya Highway, occurred about 7:00pm. A woman travelling in the second vehicle has been airlifted to Brisbane with serious injuries.
