Healthy Communities Breakfast - Murgon
The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a free community breakfast at the Murgon Visitor Information Centre in Lamb Street, Murgon from 7:00am to 9:00am this morning to help launch the Healthy Communities lifestyle program across the region. Healthy Communities is an Australian Government funded initiative designed to promote better eating and exercise and in addition to a free chow-down there'll also be prize giveaways donated by Struddy's Sports World and Sunshine Mitre 10 in Kingaroy; a live broadcast by CROW-FM 90.7; and fun activities as well. There'll also be a free nutrition and label reading workshop on offer from 9:00am to 11:30am after the brekkie winds down. Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
- The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society will be holding its latest monthly meeting for 2012 at the old Kingaroy Butter Factory Conference Room at the rear of Taste South Burnett at 67 William Street, Kingaroy from 6:30pm onwards this evening. This month's meeting will feature tastings of a "mystery wine variety" which was very popular in the 1970s and 1980s before it dropped out of favour, but which has recently been reworked by winemakers and is making a bit of a come-back. The Wine Appreciation Society is open to anyone who appreciates good wine or who'd like to find out more about wines and the $10 meeting fee covers wine tastings and nibbles. Everyone is welcome! Parthenium Management Workshop - Cherbourg
- The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a Parthenium Management Workshop at the Bert Button Lookout Conference Centre in Cherbourg from 9:00am to 11:00am this morning. The workshop will cover plant identification and treatment techniques, grazing land practices that assist with parthenium control and weed hygiene and admission is free. More details? Friday Night Dinner & Social Darts - Nanango
- The Nanango and District Darts Association will be holding their regular Friday night social darts games at their club house at the end of George Street, Nanango from 7:15pm onwards this evening. They'll also be offering inexpensive home-cooked dinners from 6:30pm if you want to chow down beforehand (but please phone the club on (07) 4163-1677 to book a seat). The club's licenced bar will be operating too, and both visitors and potential new members are very welcome.
